Adding new quail to pack

The only daft question is ..... the one you never asked. As newbies there's always something that you'd like to know, but don't ask for the fear of looking stupid.
On this board there's no such thing as silly questions, so ask away :)

Adding new quail to pack

Postby chezlouise1980 » Sat Jul 24, 2010 8:32 pm

Hi everyone,

I have just successfully hatched 4 quail chicks yesterday and am addicted! Love watching them run through empty toilet roll holder 100 times before falling asleep mid run! I am hoping to incubate more eggs soon, but want to check something first. If they all turn out to be male, can i add females from my next batch that i am planning on incubating in next few weeks? Have heard that it can sometimes be done by keeping quails near each other but in separated coops and i just wanted to know if any experienced quail keepers had done this successfully?

Thanks in advance

have done this many times each yr with no problems just be aware that if you have 4 males you will need to introduce at least 8 or even 12 females and the males will go mad with excitement and may hurt some of the young females
good luck
